Vancouver Time Lapse
I spent the day touring False Creek in Vancouver, BC taking pictures and put together a time lapse of various scenes around the see wall. After more than an hour of shooting and approximately 1000 photographs the results were finalized using Time Lapse Assembler and iMovie.

Capilano University Photography
Here are several photos from my final round of photos for my photography project. I previously took photos at Lonsdale Quay (see post) and Gastown (see post). I found that there was quite a variety of subject matter to take photos of, including the Studio Art sculptures throughout the campus.
Gastown Photography
During my recent video shoot with East Side Games, I took a number of photos in between shoots outside the company’s Gastown office. As I went through the neighbourhood, I found several fantastic locations to film and incorporate into my final video project, but these spots also made for some really interesting photos. I filmed the video project on a Canon Rebel T3i, a digital SLR that can shoot both photos and video. This gave me a great deal of flexibility to easily shoot photos without having to switch to another camera to set up a shot when needed.
Lonsdale Quay Photography
Over the past several weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to experiment with many different photography techniques. During a recent trip to Lonsdale Quay, I got a number of shots from the pier, including this shot of the famous ‘Q’ sign.
HDR Sidewalks (Update)
So this is an update post to the original post I made regarding the HDR shots I did of the sidewalks around my neighborhood.
I’ve processed the photos to HDR with Photomatix, and had some great, some good, and some ok results. The shots with the green moss are my favorite. I also like the effect that the “Clinton” stamp had as I boosted the saturation up a tad.
With all of them I had quite the blue colour cast, and had to boost the temperature up almost all the way to get more depth and variety of colour out of the old sidewalks. It was semi-cloudy that day, and it was later in the day with a nice golden light briefly shining past over the mountains but it didn’t last long.

The final step is to combine these photos with some other things, maybe some type, throw them into a layout, use them for a banner, but ideally make them into prints for decoration.
I’ll try to post the results of that when I can.
Thanks for reading!

Food Photography
My editorial food photography, I have tried out several techniques such as cropping, using props that convey a scene, depth of field/wide open so it gives the viewer something prominent to look at. And using camera angles and lighting to shape the objects so it can have a two-dimensional look, as well as textures.
Kitchen Stadium Part Deux – A Photography/Flipbook Project
Kitchen Stadium Part Deux happened last week. It was a champagne Benny Breakfast Photo Shoot. No disgusting food styling tricks here – everything photographed tasted good too! These photos will also be used in my directed studies Family Recipes Flipbook project. Watch for it at www.kaboomcreative.ca in mid December.

HDR Photo Assignment
The theme of my photography assignment is “HDR Neighborhood Sidewalks.”
The sidewalks in my Vancouver Sunrise neighborhood are well documented with a name and date stamped into the cement. Some of the sidewalks date all the way back to 1927, but they’re generally seen in between the 1929-1990 mark.
I went around in search for some of these stamps, and found it quite difficult actually. Where were all the stamps I usually see? Well for one thing, the fall leaves and snow don’t really help. Another thing was being in a hurry, battling it out with the setting sun.
Eventually, after little luck with finding date stamps, I started to notice all sorts of different personalities from one street to the next, and began photographing anything that appeared interesting. I would see things that were written into the wet concrete with a stick. Different leaves, nuts, and textures varying from one slab of concrete to the next.
In the end I will piece all the photos together, and make something nice to frame and hang up in the kitchen or living room.
Please check back as I’ll have to do all of the tone mapping and editing over the next few days.
Looking forward to sharing the result!
Steve
Cheryl’s Photography Project (Part 2)
As a recap, I am doing a depth of field study for my photography project. I wanted to create a short flipbook-like animation by photographing a person pretending to hide from the camera such that their hands are in focus and their face recedes to the background.
The shots were taken in the school’s light room. The camera was set to the continuous high speed capture mode (shutter speed at 1/2000) to take freeze frame pictures. To compensate for the short exposure time, ISO was bumped to 800. The resultant pictures were still relatively dark, so the exposure, brightness and contrast were adjusted in Photoshop’s Camera Raw.
The series of photographs were turned into an animation using Final Cut Express. I added a title & background music to the video clip. Unfortunately, Vimeo had a problem understanding the .mov file I uploaded. The clip will go up as soon as I get that sorted out.
Edit:
Video is now up. Enjoy!
